What
Is It?
Email
marketing is a method of sending Emails to customers and potential
customers to get them to do something you would like them to
do: Visit your web site to see a new offer, ask for a quote
or be contacted by sales, receive a sample or discount, etc.
These messages can be in plain text, or in HTML with photos,
illustrations and graphics.
Tip:
While they are more time-consuming to produce, monthly Email
newsletters are an ideal way to garner sales leads on a regular
basis.
Where
Do Lists Come From?
You
will receive the best results if you have an internal Email
list. If your list is sparse, or you dont have one, we
can supply one. Magazine publishers, tradeshow management companies,
and seminar sponsors are offering very good Email lists. Most
let you sort by industry, job title, and geographic region.
Tip:
Lists from publications with a BPA audited circulation are the
best choices since addresses are often qualified annually or
semi-annually so there will be little waste.
Tip:
The best lists let you select addresses based on products/services
specified or purchased by the addressees.
Tip:
Develop your own list by getting customer/prospect addresses
from your sales, marketing and customer service personnel.
Why
Choose Opt-In Lists?
Opt-in,
or permission-based, lists are comprised of subscribers who
have told the list owner that they would like to receive Emails
from a third party. Using opt-in lists means you wont
be sending Emails to, and irritating, those who dont want
them. You will get a better response with an opt-in list.
How
Much Do Lists Cost?
You
can rent lists for anywhere from $250 to $600 per thousand addresses
and sometimes a transmission fee of between $100 and $150 per
thousand addresses. You may also incur some minor additional
costs such as $10 per thousand addresses to select the list
by job title, industry, geographical region, etc. Most list
owners require the total amount to be paid prior to broadcast.
Do
I Get the List?
Generally,
youll never see a rented list. Most list owners are very
protective of the Email addresses they have spent serious money
to acquire and maintain. There are exceptions: some lists provided
by tradeshow management companies of pre-show registrants or
post show attendees, seminar attendees, etc. These are typically
one-time lists and are not managed over time.
What
Are the Mechanics of Email Ads
Once
you have selected your list, we can help you to develop the
message in either plain text or HTML. The message is then forwarded
to the list owner for transmission.
How
Much Do Email Ads Cost to Produce?
Those
ads with logos, photos, text and graphics generally range in
price from $1,500 to $4,000 depending on complexity.
How
Long Does It Take?
Five
to 15 days is the typical time it takes to schedule a broadcast
once the list has been defined. After broadcast, you should
receive about 80% of your responses within 4 hours.
What
Kind of Response Will I Get?
Response is dependent on the strength of your offer to a targeted
audience. Generally, we have seen the following response rates
- Opened
the Email: 25 to 50%
- Clicked
to the web site: 3 to 12%
- Responded
to an offer: 2 to 10%
Tip:
One Email message doesn't have to fit all. You can increase
response rates by tailoring messages to specific buyers, i.e.,
purchasing: low cost, engineering: better performance, marketing:
speed-to-market.
Tip:
Capture the responses you receive from rented lists to add to
your database for future Emailings.
Are
There Particular Days of the Week that are Better to Send Emails?
Tuesday,
Wednesday and Thursday are the best days to send Email ads.
Do not schedule Email ads right before or after a holiday.
