Media
II Update
Thought we'd depart from the normal
content of the Public Bath to give you an update on what
we've been up to over the past few months.
2004 was a very busy year for us,
especially the last few months, (and it's why we missed
sending you the Public Bath for a couple of months). We
are delighted with the many significant projects we completed
last year for our clients that included several new product
and service introductions, product positioning analysis
and deployment, branding initiatives, web site strategies
and execution, public relations programs, literature and
ad development, plus a host more.
It looks like 2005 will be even
busier for us with several new clients around the country
joining Media II and extending our reach with the office
we established in Charlotte last year. Thanks to everyone
for your support.
We are also very pleased that several
clients are using Media II now as their Marketing Communications
Department. Our task is to interface with their management,
sales, marketing and product personnel to develop strategies
and deploy tactics to improve communications effectiveness
and response times. It's a win-win situation for both
organizations: we get an in-depth understanding of our
client's business objectives, products and resources for
optimal results and continued business; they get the professional,
experienced support from an entire team dedicated to their
company at a nominal cost.
As you probably are aware our Candi
Becker had her baby last year. She'll be back in April,
and we have been fortunate to have Andy Carpenter back
on the staff again. Both are seasoned graphic design professionals
with a high level of customer responsiveness.
Oh, and we are moving our offices
south at the end of February, about six miles south to
Willoughby Hills. The new address is 34900 Chardon Road,
Suite 206, Willoughby Hills, OH 44094. our phone and fax
numbers are the same. Stop in anytime after February 18.
After we digest the move, next
on the agenda is a complete upgrade of all hardware (both
Macs and PCs) and software, as well as a faster server
and a wired and wireless network. The goal of all of this
is to make us more productive through increased efficiencies
to keep costs down while being very responsive to short
lead times.
Google
Releases Free Software for Organizing Digital Photos
The billionaire whiz kids are
at it again. Search engine leader Google is releasing
free software for organizing and finding the hundreds
or thousands of digital photos often stored on a computer's
hard drive. Using technology developed by Picasa Inc.,
which Google bought last year, the new software will help
make keeping a photo collection and editing pictures simple
even for beginners. Rather than requiring users to import
individual photos from their drives, Picasa software detects
them as they are added - whether sent via email or transferred
from a digital camera. Sorry Mac users, Picasa 2 is available
only for Windows computers and requires the Microsoft
Internet Explorer browser, version 5.01 or higher, or
Mozilla Firefox.
Here's Why Fewer News Releases are Appearing in Trade Journals
There is a ratio of ad pages to
editorial that publications use, so when ad pages are
down, so are the number of pages dedicated to editorial
items such as news releases. And increasingly, although
you'd never get a publisher to admit it, magazines prefer
running news releases from advertisers rather than non-advertisers.

The Public Bath?
In ancient times, public baths
were places that men of learning and curiosity gathered
to exchange ideas. Today those places no longer exist
(unless you count hot tubs), so we've tried to adapt the
bath's open freewheeling tone into a newsletter. We hope
you'll read our Public Bath in just that spirit.
The Public Bath is not "first-thing-on-Monday"
reading. Rather, it is more like "fifteen-minutes-till
lunch on Friday" or, "on hold" reading. Some material
is amusing, some sociological, some newsy and we hope
-- all thought-provoking.
We also want to answer your questions
and hear your reactions. Have a topic you would like us
to explore? Let us know that too. After all, public baths
are places for both listening and talking.
